Who Created the Theme for Your Blog?
I get this questions a lot. I love my theme (minus a few small tweaks I would like to make to it)… the creators of the theme on this page is a company call Unique Blog Designs. They do all of the theme design for the big boys.
- John Chow
- Shoemoney
- Yahoo!
Anyways, the boys at Unique Blog Designs are celebrating their 1 year anniversary with a great contest - check out the details below.
A Lesson In Marketing From a Rock Band - Part IV
We just played a great show not too long ago. I don’t feel that the show went well based on the number of mistakes we made or even the overall sound of the band. I feel that the show was great based on the turnout and overall attitude of the crowd.
I also feel that we accomplished more then just playing a good show by the amount of people we networked with. Like any small business, when we do business, I like to count relationships. I feel that we built a good number of relationships that night….. relationships with new fans (we added some names to our mailing list), relationships with a new club, relationships with some new bands.
Why I haven’t posted this week
I’ve been in training for my corporate job this week. The training is about business coaching for leaders … I plan on writing a post about this in the near future. (good stuff!)
So I’ve used this opportunity to take a short break from writing, SEO, marketing, reading. It’s been a good break, but I can’t wait to start writing again next week!
So…. Check back then!
Until that time - thanks for reading entrenewbies!
Easy Friday - What We Learned This Week 8.11.08 - 8.15.08
Horray Friday, I’ve been very busy both on and offline this week and didn’t get a chance to post as much as I would have liked too. However, if you missed any of those posts check out the links below!
How to Become An Expert On a Topic
I am obviously not an expert on Business or Internet Marketing
That is ok though… that’s not what this blog is about. What if I’ve identified a niche that I think would be fun to explore, but I know nothing about it? How do I become the expert on that topic?

Rock-it-out With a Newsletter
We keep our fans up-to-date on what we are doing (even if it’s not playing out somewhere) with our newsletter. We only send out the letter about once every two weeks and we will also send out show reminders when we are getting close to playing a gig.
The newsletter is used to remind people that we still exist and it’s also a nice little nudge to go back to our website and check out our latest content.
One of the toughest obstacles of the newsletter is getting people to sign up. Since we aren’t spamming people, we have to be a little creative to get them to freely opt-in to our mailing list. Below are some of the tactics we use to obtain these oh-so-coveted addresses.
Going the Extra Mile to Keep a Customer
I’m sure many of you have had your car serviced before only to be presented with an upsell for several services that you decline. After you have given the service adviser the big “NO Thanks” the story seems to be pretty common…. either you get “Well this is really important and you really need to do it - let’s schedule for another time” or you will get the “oh…. ok…. have a nice day” with a a lot of disappointment and a side of guilt added to it. What if the service adviser did something you didn’t expect? Would he have you saving your hard earned money to come back for those upsells later?
Easy Friday - what we learned this week 8.4.08 - 8.8.08
It’s another Friday, I’ve got a nice hot Cuban Sandwich cooking so I will keep this short and sweet!
Picking The Right Keywords For SEO
Last week I talked about some very basic SEO principals. In that post, I had mentioned that one of the first things you need to do is pick the keywords that you want people to search for you on.
The best way to pick your words from the very start is to come up with a list of words you think people might search for your site using. Once you have your list, ask some friends or relatives what they might search on to find your site. Since they may not be familiar with your type of business this will give you a better idea of what the uninformed consumer may be looking for.
A Lesson In Marketing From A Rock Band - Part II
Video - viral or otherwise
In last weeks post I talked about how my band uses our blog to keep a dialog between us and our fans. This week I wanted to talk about another method that we use to keep interest in us, even when we aren’t playing …. Video.
